Our Mission

INDIA HOUSE FOUNDATION is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1999 to document and preserve maritime history and help revitalize Lower Manhattan, New York City.

 

The India House Foundation will publish a book in 2012 on the history of the Marine  Collection at India House, established in 1914 by James A. Farrell (President of United States Steel) and Dorothy Payne Whitney and her husband Willard Dickerman Straight (U.S. Vice Consul to Manchuria under President Theodore Roosevelt) with a foreword by American Art Historian John Wilmerding.  Share your knowledge of the ships, shipowners and captains of the vessels shown in the Marine Collection at India House.
